Dawsonville, GA (September 18, 2019) – After midnight this morning, a single-vehicle fatal crash involving a DUI driver caused the death of a passenger on Grant Ford Drive.
When officers arrived at the scene of the accident, they discovered that a green 2006 Mazda had overturned on the south shoulder of the road. The car was driven by a 21-year-old female from Dawsonville, who had been traveling east and attempted to negotiate a curve in the road traveling too quickly.
Police claim that the woman lost control of her vehicle when going around the curve, which caused the vehicle to drive off the south shoulder. The vehicle ran into several trees, where it then overturned.
There were four passengers in the back seat of the vehicle, none of whom were wearing seatbelts. Two of the passengers, identified as a 21-year-old man and 20-year-old woman, were ejected from the vehicle. Both were airlifted to a local hospital. However, while there, the 20-year-old woman passed away. The other passenger is in critical condition at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
The other two passengers were identified as a 25-year-old man and 19-year-old woman. They were hospitalized with minor injuries and are expected to recover.
The driver received charges of reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, DUI, and more.
