Sandersville, GA – Three Injured in Train Accident at George J. Lyons Pkwy

Sandersville, GA (September 9, 2019) – On Wednesday, September 4, police responded to the scene of a train accident that took place on the George J. Lyons Parkway in Sandersville.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the collision took place when the driver of a tractor-trailer did not realize that a train was headed in his direction and he attempted to drive over the tracks. The train was headed approximately 19 mph and struck the tractor-trailer.

At the time, the truck had been carrying vehicle batteries and caused acid to spill onto the roadways, prompting Hazmat to the scene of the collision.

Three men on the train received injuries due to the forceful collision. Nobody in the truck sustained injuries.

At this time, the investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
