Gainesville, GA – Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on I-985

Gainesville, GA (September 10, 2019) – The Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene of a fatal two-vehicle crash that took place on I-985 in Gainesville.

At the time, a 26-year-old man failed to stop in his Toyota Prius behind the driver of a truck, identified as a 44-year-old man.

Police say that the tractor-trailer had been stopped in the northbound lane of the highway approaching a construction zone. Police have confirmed that traffic was slow and barely moving at the time and that the tractor-trailer had come to a complete stop.

When the Prius ran into the back of the truck, it struck the rear of the trailer and went partially underneath it. The Prius then caught on fire.

Two motorists who stopped to assist at the scene helped the man out of his vehicle and he was immediately transported to the hospital. However, while there, he tragically passed away due to his injuries.

The driver of the truck was not injured. At this time, no charges have been filed and the investigation into the accident continues.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
